Subject	Does the hood switch serve a purpose?

Message	Mounted over by the fuse box there is a switch that is depressed when the hood is down. I don't have a light under my hood, i've never seen any sort of "hood open" warning on my cluster and the engine runs the same hood up or hood down. So really, wtf is the point of this thing?
